Part 2 

Target audience.

In terms of target audience , since this research group doesn’t normally operate within the public sector , the website will have a very niche audience , this audience will consist of;

Media:  the media will most likely get involved with the website when breakthroughs in the technology have been made, news coverage might be involved so potentially through the media , will be the only time the public will have contact with the website.

Research post grad students:  Post-graduates with the intention of joining the group as members of staff.

Sponsors: Sponsor group with the intention of investing into the group will have contact with the website.

Industry: industry experts and even rivals with gain contact with the website , this particular target group is important as we will want to give the right impression.    

An interesting question was discussed in terms of target audience and mobilisation , the question was asked , since we have a very niche market  and  will access the site for a particular reason in mind, they will not be causally browsing on it via a mobile device e.g. iPhone , Galaxy S3 etc.

The reason why I bring this up is because I was planning on creating a tablet and mobile site for the group , but I might scrap the phone site and stick with the tablet and desktop site.

Web Browsers

Standard at this stage for any web developer , this site will be tested and be functional in latest versions of  Google chrome , Apple’s Safari , Internet explorer 9  and Firefox. I am not too sure how far back into I.E I want to go but I don’t think I will make it I.E6 compactable since I am using HTML5 and CSS , I.E6 will not recognize the new code , I will have to make a page stating to update the web browser, but in this case I have find it unlikely as anyone who will access the site , will most likely have the latest browser.      

ARTG Presentation

Part 1

This is is in depth presentation of what i plan to do for my Internal client brief ,  in this particular project we have been asked to create a website for the Advance Research Textiles Group or the ARTG. 

Statement 

It is my intention with this is project to produce a slick responsive website 

which embodies the latest web design practices with the beautiful high 

concept ideas in order to create a unique user experience with the ARTG.

In this project we have given three briefs to chosen from , personally i have chosen the brief which shows off the facilities , research staff and current techniques in the industry. 

The research core of the ATRG is the full integration of electronics into textiles and the facilities of this area also allow sophisticated computer-controlled design. Today's electronic textiles are usually made by stitching components onto existing garments; the ATRG are currently integrating electronics into the core of yarns to produce robust, fully flexible, machine-washable clothing.

The way 

I am going to approach this project is a rebranding project , I will be recreating

everything from the logo , social icons everything. This is will be a fitting test for
my skills as a web and graphic designer.

Initial Concepts - Colours 

When I envision ATRG , I envision the application of science and textiles , so in colour that means for me personally deep blues and whites , so at this initial stage , this is what i am focusing my colour pallet on.

Initial Concepts - Minimalist

I really believe in minimalist websites , the idea of creating a clean ,

simple sites really appeal to me and the consumer , users do not 

want to be bombarded with information , just information that is relevant.

Five page Traditional or Scrolling

I am still debating whether to do a five page traditional website or five page

scrolling , I have done a few scrolling website and I am now comfortable 

enough in the method to implement my design ideas and techniques , but It 

would mean I would be restricted in to a certain amount of page on the

screen and information I would be able to put on the screen. –

again another avenue I must think about before work can begin.

Why Scrolling is the New Click - 

Which is better for users, scrolling or clicking? This is the question that designers have to think about when they’re designing page flow. Clicking offers users a menu of links that take them to a new page. Scrolling offers users all the content divided into different sections on a single page.

Many years ago, clicking was the simple answer to this question. The general thought was that if you made your page too long, users would only view and read the top half and glance over or ignore the bottom half. Today, things have changed. Many users do scroll to the end of the page and have no problem doing so. Scrolling has become a second-nature and clicking a chore. As user behavior changes over time, designers need to take that into account in their designs.

I think you get the jist of where am i going here , it is still VERY early days.

New Portfolio - Very Early Development.

Very very early development on my new website , which hopefully will be completed by christmas this year at the latest , i don't want to give any too much info information but if all goes to plan , it will be the most complete website i have ever done , in terms of design , coding , etc. 

I have come along away from 1st year , using hotspots.

Year 3 , Big Year Ahead

So the time has finally arrived the dreaded third and final year of university , sorry i haven't been posting due to work commitments but the is work behind the scenes i assure you , starting with a total new logo and portfolio design in the works , am i want to start branding myself and i am taking inspiration from old 8bit/16bit gaming systems , think NES , SEGA , Atari (being a gamer myself) , i did a similar design in my first year but i this design will be more detailed. Also planning to learn how to use a tablet , so i can design my own sprites.

Perfect Pastries - Group Client Project

3 selected wire frames we have mocked up for the final project.
All three would have a JQuery slider (or Flash sequence) Using the images provided to us by the client.
We've decided to use the first wire frame as it seems cleaner, easier to use and modern in terms of the design of the site.

DP3 Update - The Dark Star Horses - Website

Done , Done Done, , all that stands in my way is that mobile site , got a meeting with Giselle on the matter , hopefully be done by Friday afternoon , Been getting really good feedback so far , With Shaun saying that he might put the site up live and Giselle saying i should start applying at companies such as NME  for work experience but personally I feel that it is too soon and that I would like to expand my knowledge first and put together a decent website , (which I will re-do over Easter). More to come.

DP3 Update - The Dark Star Horses - Website 90% done.

Sorry for the lack of posts , been bust trying to get this website sorted , but glad to say that the desktop website is done , pretty much , just waiting on content and pictures from Shaun but the main body of the website is done, the only thing which is giving me issues is mobilisation , I find it very annoying that we haven't been taught properly  on the subject when it is a big part of the brief  and we haven't had not ONE  hands on lesson on this , rather WordPress , now am not against learning WordPress but the fact the we had not one lesson on HOW to do mobilisation again really annoys me , I had to book a session with Giselle on Wednesday just to show how to do it, and that all we want really , someone to SHOW us and not just TELL us , am now worried that I might not meet the deadline in time in terms of the mobile site. I might have to ask for an extension , worked really hard on this site and am not about to allow this to set me back.

DP3 Update- One page Scrolling coding , Completed + Concept Art

So after having to re-do the entire website , the basic HTML coding for the one page scrolling is done , although , the navigation bar disappears in IE , so I will have to speak to Giselle on that but all the basic coding is done (for the second time) , right now i am working on the Graphic and Design elements of the site , I had done a logo before Shaun did like it but he wanted the "DSH" part of logo cut out and just keep the text Dark Star Horses and also he felt that the "S" wasn't easily readable

I had also done some other logos, but again they were based on the DSH lettering and I also made the silly mistake of not reading the name of the website probably and thinking they were called "The Dark Horses"

Below is one of the backgrounds I am working on , since am now doing a one page scrolling I may have to change my approach and design one massive coherent background that  will be split up for the different sections of the site

Idea Scrapped

So the The website that i have been working solidly for a week has been scrapped after a conversions with Shaun and myself , i am now going to do a one page scrolling website , keeping it simple and clean , to be honest i think the site i was working on was becoming too blockly and information based. after doing some research i have decided to base my design on http://www.jeremymansfield.com/. which fits in the the dark horses theme and feel , i will design the backgrounds over the weekend and code the website throughout next week.       

DP3 Update - The Dark Star Horses

Sorry for the lack of updates, been working off the radar , and i haven't had time to to post anything , but worry process has been made with DP3 , and i have finally have someone to work for , I have been tasked with re-designing Shaun's Band website , The Dark Star Horses , the website itself has barely anything to work with , so i will have to sit Shaun down  and discuss and describe what his band is about , but other that all the basic coding and layout and pages have been done , still loads to in terms of the design and feel of the website , but here is a very early taster.
