Context 3 Images - 8BIT Wonder

Below are some of my context three images , as you can see , i have gone with a 8it classic NES style to portray my abilities and skills , the reason why have chosen this type of design , is apart from being a devoted gamer , the design fits in with the design of my new website which should be launching in the new year. Enjoy.

i still haven't finished two of the images , and the responsive design image still needs work , you get the idea that am going for, vintage gaming and vintage look.

Development - ATRG

Haven't posted in awhile , but have been hard at work , doing this website , i have made major progress on the home and some on the about page , below is a screenshot of the home page in its current state

 And here it is the slider with a few tester images , here i am just testing whether the transparent images work on the slider which they do.

 Again I have changed around the layout of the design , I think I am finally happy with this design to be honest for the home page.

As you can see , I have decided to change the layout of the website , the reason being I wanted to feel more of the empty space surrounding the main body wrappe

r. 

Just a quick update ,on the background , here I am using , CSS3 to make the background responsive since am using an image as a background  

Coding Development - ATRG

So I began coding today , basing my wire-frame on the designs that I did previously but as I began coding the website there was something wrong with the feel of the site, it seemed empty , maybe this feeling will pass on, but at the moment I can’t shake the feeling that there is too much negative space.

I have also been developing the wireframes of the site , to see which one is best suited for this client project , I think the key to this is brief is to keep it simple , the type of user that will access the site , will not want to play around with an over developed interface.  

i have tired to implement my logo designs to the prototypes aswell.

Logo Development - ATRG

Over the past two days I have been really cracking on the development of the project , in this case I have been creating different logos for the ATRG , as I said in my presentation , I believe that when you think of ATRG , and the work they undertake , you cannot help think of the future and that is what I have tried to implement in my designs.

Design 1

With this first design I wanted to emphasize the symbols of the research group loud and vibrant , the problem with this design which I perceived straight away is the fact that the letters after the large letters are very small and would be hard to read.

To solve this problem I could move the letters closer together and make the lettering after the “ATRG” much bigger but I like the amount of spacing in-between the letters and I feel if I move the lettering closer together then , it would seem cluttered and not achieve the clean logo I want to achieve.

Design 2

I wanted to experiment with my second design , so this design is more of a high concept idea then the pervious , I have gone for a more unusual layout aswell, by having the lettering at an angle, also on reflection , I wanted to implement the science factor more into my design , so I created guidelines at either side of the logo.

Design 3

This design is more hasn't got much changes from design 1 , just slight changes such the brightness of the logo , which I had added an outer and inner glow , and I have also blurred out the guidelines at the sides of the logo to give a more 3d Effect on the logo.

Design 4

Again I wanted to develop the science aspect much more then in design 3 , so I decided to add “wiring” to my logo design , and I like the effect that it brings to the image , but again I feel that it is too cartoonish and not the clean cooperate image I wanted.

Design 5

Again , just more development on the design , this time I added a patchwork effect in an attempt to play to the “textiles” aspect of the group.

Design 6

This is more of the style of logo I am trying to achieve, I believe it strikes a perfect balance between high concept design and corporate importance, I wanted to keep the design simple and the typeface clean , the line I have running through the middle of the logo plays a vital role in the design linking the A,R and the G.

Part 2 

Target audience.

In terms of target audience , since this research group doesn’t normally operate within the public sector , the website will have a very niche audience , this audience will consist of;

Media:  the media will most likely get involved with the website when breakthroughs in the technology have been made, news coverage might be involved so potentially through the media , will be the only time the public will have contact with the website.

Research post grad students:  Post-graduates with the intention of joining the group as members of staff.

Sponsors: Sponsor group with the intention of investing into the group will have contact with the website.

Industry: industry experts and even rivals with gain contact with the website , this particular target group is important as we will want to give the right impression.    

An interesting question was discussed in terms of target audience and mobilisation , the question was asked , since we have a very niche market  and  will access the site for a particular reason in mind, they will not be causally browsing on it via a mobile device e.g. iPhone , Galaxy S3 etc.

The reason why I bring this up is because I was planning on creating a tablet and mobile site for the group , but I might scrap the phone site and stick with the tablet and desktop site.

Web Browsers

Standard at this stage for any web developer , this site will be tested and be functional in latest versions of  Google chrome , Apple’s Safari , Internet explorer 9  and Firefox. I am not too sure how far back into I.E I want to go but I don’t think I will make it I.E6 compactable since I am using HTML5 and CSS , I.E6 will not recognize the new code , I will have to make a page stating to update the web browser, but in this case I have find it unlikely as anyone who will access the site , will most likely have the latest browser.      

ARTG Presentation

Part 1

This is is in depth presentation of what i plan to do for my Internal client brief ,  in this particular project we have been asked to create a website for the Advance Research Textiles Group or the ARTG. 

Statement 

It is my intention with this is project to produce a slick responsive website 

which embodies the latest web design practices with the beautiful high 

concept ideas in order to create a unique user experience with the ARTG.

In this project we have given three briefs to chosen from , personally i have chosen the brief which shows off the facilities , research staff and current techniques in the industry. 

The research core of the ATRG is the full integration of electronics into textiles and the facilities of this area also allow sophisticated computer-controlled design. Today's electronic textiles are usually made by stitching components onto existing garments; the ATRG are currently integrating electronics into the core of yarns to produce robust, fully flexible, machine-washable clothing.

The way 

I am going to approach this project is a rebranding project , I will be recreating

everything from the logo , social icons everything. This is will be a fitting test for
my skills as a web and graphic designer.

Initial Concepts - Colours 

When I envision ATRG , I envision the application of science and textiles , so in colour that means for me personally deep blues and whites , so at this initial stage , this is what i am focusing my colour pallet on.

Initial Concepts - Minimalist

I really believe in minimalist websites , the idea of creating a clean ,

simple sites really appeal to me and the consumer , users do not 

want to be bombarded with information , just information that is relevant.

Five page Traditional or Scrolling

I am still debating whether to do a five page traditional website or five page

scrolling , I have done a few scrolling website and I am now comfortable 

enough in the method to implement my design ideas and techniques , but It 

would mean I would be restricted in to a certain amount of page on the

screen and information I would be able to put on the screen. –

again another avenue I must think about before work can begin.

Why Scrolling is the New Click - 

Which is better for users, scrolling or clicking? This is the question that designers have to think about when they’re designing page flow. Clicking offers users a menu of links that take them to a new page. Scrolling offers users all the content divided into different sections on a single page.

Many years ago, clicking was the simple answer to this question. The general thought was that if you made your page too long, users would only view and read the top half and glance over or ignore the bottom half. Today, things have changed. Many users do scroll to the end of the page and have no problem doing so. Scrolling has become a second-nature and clicking a chore. As user behavior changes over time, designers need to take that into account in their designs.

New Portfolio - Development

I think you get the jist of where am i going here , it is still VERY early days.

New Portfolio - Very Early Development.

Very very early development on my new website , which hopefully will be completed by christmas this year at the latest , i don't want to give any too much info information but if all goes to plan , it will be the most complete website i have ever done , in terms of design , coding , etc. 

I have come along away from 1st year , using hotspots.

Year 3 , Big Year Ahead

So the time has finally arrived the dreaded third and final year of university , sorry i haven't been posting due to work commitments but the is work behind the scenes i assure you , starting with a total new logo and portfolio design in the works , am i want to start branding myself and i am taking inspiration from old 8bit/16bit gaming systems , think NES , SEGA , Atari (being a gamer myself) , i did a similar design in my first year but i this design will be more detailed. Also planning to learn how to use a tablet , so i can design my own sprites.

Perfect Pastries - Group Client Project

3 selected wire frames we have mocked up for the final project.
All three would have a JQuery slider (or Flash sequence) Using the images provided to us by the client.
We've decided to use the first wire frame as it seems cleaner, easier to use and modern in terms of the design of the site.
